Christine Powell, assistant principal of Anderson County High School, is Kentucky's 2005 Assistant Principal of the Year.
Chosen from a statewide pool of candidates, Powell was selected for the award based on the high quality instructional leadership she provides to students and staff at school each day.
“Christine ensures our students are exposed to research-based instructional strategies in the classroom,” said Anderson Principal Ray Woodyard. “Her vast knowledge of state and national curriculum requirements enabled us to exceed our performance target as prescribed by the state of Kentucky.”
Anderson Asst. Superintendent Steve Burkich added, “The hallmark of Ms. Powell's leadership is demonstrated by her knowledge of learning, teaching, research, and programs that maximize student performance.”
Throughout her education career, Powell has held numerous posts, including her current position as assistant principal, curriculum director, and English/French and journalism teacher.
The Assistant Principal of the Year program, sponsored by NASSP, Virco, Inc., and KASSP, recognizes outstanding secondary school assistant principals who have demonstrated excellent leadership to staff and students, service to their communities, and contributions to the overall profession of educational leadership.
Powell was recognized at KASSP's winter conference in late January. In addition, she competed with 51 other state finalists for the National Assistant Principal of the Year award.
