KASSP announced Calloway County High School Principal Yvette Pyle as the Kentucky High School Principal of the Year.

Pyle will serve as the state's nominees for the National High School Principal of the Year Program, sponsored by MetLife and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

A premise of the MetLife/NASSP partnership program is that “Good Principals help students set goals…Great Principals inspire students to achieve them.” Pyle was selected by a panel of principals from across the state as one of those great principals.

As principal of Calloway County High School (CCHS), Pyle is credited with organizing a collaborative leadership team that developed a process to ensure inclusion of core content in daily classroom instruction, as well as taking the next step toward rigor and relevance with an emphasis upon common course finals to provide consistency, quality, and academic challenge for each student at CCHS. Further, with the student as the primary focus, Pyle established small advisor/advisee groups to provide individualized support for every student.

As a result of Pyle’s leadership and the efforts of an exceptional administrative team, faculty, staff and student body, the Total Academic Index for CCHS increased from 67.5 to 81.4, the ACT composite increased from 20.9 to 21.7 (24th of 251 reporting schools in the state of Kentucky), attendance rates increased, while the dropout rates decreased. The successful transition to adult life percentage rate increased from 92.45 to 97.98 percent.

Pyle will be honored at KASSP’s Summer Conference, June 20-22, 2007 at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington and at the Principals’ Institute and Awards Banquet in Washington, D.C. this fall.
